Chaos at Howe Community Park Leaves 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time law enforcement were clearing an unsanctioned gathering of Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 hundreds of attendees.

Background

Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at Howe Park around 6:30 in the evening after getting calls of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Soon after, a follow-up call was made regarding a possible physical fight unfolding inside the park.

A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Nevertheless, it was evident that an enormous crowd had packed into the park without any permit or approval.

When the Shots Rang Out

Responding units worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and announcing over their public address systems commanding those gathered to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes were provided for the gathering to break up.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots rang out. The sudden gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Responding personnel wasted no time in locating gunshot victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — consisting of one woman and three men each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to nearby hospitals. Medical personnel indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. In a positive development, each of the four victims was stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire also responded and aided in treating shooting victims prior to hospital transport.

The Investigation

The center of the incident was confirmed to have been concentrated adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. CSI personnel identified extra shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the iron perimeter fence adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. These findings confirmed that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was secured under a brief lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel kept processing evidence throughout the night.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Details gathered through scanner monitoring showed that a Kia had been detained in Solano County. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for processing in Sacramento County. Surveillance footage confirmed that two shooters had been involved.
